Our origins
The founding partners shared a background in bulge-bracket investment banking and began working together as independent advisers in 2002. Their purpose was clear from the outset: to build something different - a platform structured around the client's interests alone.
Pourquoi-Pas?
Commandant Jean-Baptiste Charcot was a French scientist, explorer and naval officer - a figure of rare combination: rigorous in method, bold in ambition, and admired by those who worked alongside him for his leadership, discipline and intellectual courage. In an era when the routes were genuinely unknown, he led expeditions into uncharted waters not because they were safe, but because the question demanded an answer.

His ship was named the Pourquoi-Pas? - Why not?

It is a deceptively simple question. Behind it lies a refusal to accept that the conventional path is the only path; a belief that the right approach to a complex situation is curiosity first, conviction second, and the discipline to see it through. These are the qualities we aim to bring to every client engagement.
We chose the name because it reflects something we believe about advisory work at its best: that the most valuable counsel does not simply confirm what a client expects to hear. It asks Pourquoi-Pas? - challenges assumptions, finds routes others have overlooked, and has the courage to follow them.

From that question, four principles
Over more than two decades of working together, it has crystallised into four values that govern every mandate we take on.
Because intellectual curiosity without rigour produces nothing of value. We hold ourselves to the highest standard of analysis, process and execution, at every stage of every transaction.
Because Pourquoi-Pas? only means something if the person asking it has no institutional agenda to protect. Our ownership structure, our selectivity and our refusal to carry competing priorities exist to preserve the integrity of our advice.
Because the transactions that matter most are almost always sensitive. Charcot earned the trust of those who sailed with him through consistency of character, not reputation alone. We approach client relationships the same way.
Because the best advisory relationships are partnerships, not engagements. We invest our own capital alongside clients where long-term strategic alignment exists, sharing risk and reward across the full arc of the investment.
